Underneath the arches

OK, yeah, possibly the least imaginative title for this blog post but I may have run out of imagination for the time being.

Anyhow, I had a look at the rear inner wings on the car and the inner wing panel goes between the inner and outer wheel arch panels. That meant that the outer part of the wheel arch had to come off so I spent a few hours cutting the welds and removing those panels.

The nearside panel is clearly a fairly recent new panel and still has factory primer on the back. The offside one isn't in such good condition and has a big patch on the leading edge.

Removing the wheel arch sections has done more damage to the inner wing panel too so that will need repairing before it all goes back together. There are also some unpleasant frilly bits here and there.

I've looked at the boot floor some more. It's hard to decide whether to just chop out the whole thing or whether I need it to provide datum points for locating the bottom edge repairs to the inner wings.

To be honest the more I look at this car, the more I see that needs fixing. I'm again questioning whether it's worth all the effort right now. It's certainly a mountain to climb.

  1. At least repairing the extra cuts etc to the inner bits is nice and easy - been there and done that!

  2. ... and as for being worth it - or course it's not. But I suspect that's probably not the point.
